Misguided Spending

In the newspaper this month, I found a small blurb that has been bothering me since I read it.
Job layoffs began in many industries before the holidays and are continuing. Yet, Hollywood just had its first ever billion dollar January. To me, movie ticket prices are astronomical. It makes me wonder how people are affording to support this surge in business for what I consider an industry that overpays its employees.

Pure escapism. It's an "affordable luxury" in a time that not much else is. People aren't eating out so maybe they are taking that money and just going to the movies. Or charging it, you know the good old "American" way. Thanks Kari, now you started me thinking of all the movies I would like to see....confessions of a shopaholic anyone?:)

For years doug and I have gone to the movies often, but not anymore. I too have been reflecting on priorities and spending habits. Hollywood is something I've decided I won't support as much anymore. We do still take in an occasional movie but only a 1/4 of what we used to go. Last night was one of the rare nights we had a "date night" and decided to go to a movie, we left after 45 minutes and got our money back then took a walk together instead stopping at the bookstore. So much better!
